# Global electricity growth in 2025

- Snapshot: 12 October 2026.
- chart-data.csv: the nine source changes plotted, in TWh.
- world-electricity-2000-2025.csv: the underlying global annual series and source metrics, 2000–2025.
- render.py: offline Python/Pillow renderer. Run `python render.py` after installing requirements. Use DejaVu Sans fonts; set CHART_FONT_DIR if installed elsewhere.

## Fields
- Source / Electricity source: fuel or source group.
- Year: calendar year.
- Area: World in this extract.
- Generation (TWh): annual electricity generated.
- Generation YoY change (TWh): change versus the previous year; negative means a fall.
- Generation YoY change (%): percentage change versus the previous year.
- Share of generation (%): share of annual generation, not share of the annual increase.
- Is aggregated source: TRUE identifies combined categories; do not add these to their component sources.
- Capacity (GW): installed generating capacity.
- Emissions (MtCO2e): lifecycle greenhouse-gas estimate in million tonnes CO2 equivalent.
- Emissions intensity (gCO2e/kWh): emissions per unit of electricity.
- Other share/change columns: the corresponding percentage or annual change.
- Membership/geography columns: original source labels retained unchanged.

Nine mutually exclusive source changes sum to +849.923 TWh. Solar contributes +646.268 TWh, or 76.0384% of the net increase. Values are preserved at source precision; the chart rounds to one decimal. This is electricity generation, not total energy consumption. No aggregates are double-counted.

The source download is revised over time. This snapshot is intentionally fixed so the chart remains reproducible.

## Preparation and checks
The supplied file was described as a World 1990–2025 selection, but its actual
records span 2000–2025. This release corrects the filename and coverage label;
the underlying CSV bytes and full numeric precision are unchanged.

The annual CSV retains all source labels, including overlapping aggregate
categories. For the chart, select only Solar, Wind, Nuclear, Gas, Bioenergy,
Other renewables, Hydro, Coal and Other fossil. Each is non-aggregated; Demand,
Total generation and combined source categories are excluded from the sum.
Do not sum every row in the annual file.

Generation and change values were parsed and checked against the previous
year's generation for 2025. The nine changes match chart-data.csv exactly and
sum to the published Total generation change of 849.923 TWh. Annual source
changes reconcile exactly at the packaged precision across all 400 available
year-to-year comparisons. Blank cells remain blank. No missing values were imputed and no source
errors were corrected. The chart rounds labels to one decimal place.

Independent source verification confirmed this full-source hash and every
packaged row against the World 2000–2025 source selection. The original full
source file is not included in this package. Offline rendering reproduced the
reviewed chart byte for byte. Numeric values and source labels are preserved.
